I have to confess, I formed this blog on July 13 and today (7/24) is the first time I’m posting. That’s terrible
Nevertheless… about two weeks I was chatting with my friend Shamiso, who works for the Association to Benefit Children (please check out their website. This is a great organization. http://www.a-b-c.org/) I mentioned I was looking for a place, in my neighborhood, to do some volunteer work. Sham was able to bring me in as a creative movement/yoga teacher for the next few weeks. AWESOME SAUCE.
I instructed two classes on Wednesday. I must say I was a lil’ nervous the night before. As a former hood-ass kid, I knew they would have no qualms about telling me if/when they were bored. Fortunately my classes were a success, and the Micheal Jackson tunes I played were a hit!!!!
Lesson plan below:
walk, freeze, melt excersice. (add variation walk like stuck in mud, sizzle like bacon etc.)
Name Game- form circle and have each kiddie say name and create a movement with their name. Then everyone in the circle repeats name and movement.
Simon Says then lead to …Ballerina Says (show basic ballet positions)…. Yoga Teacher Says (show a few yoga poses)
Freeze Dance (using MJ’s history album)
